Sealant

Dental sealants are a highly effective preventive measure to protect children's teeth from decay and cavities. These thin, protective coatings, typically applied to the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars, create a barrier that seals off the deep grooves and crevices where food particles and bacteria tend to accumulate. By acting as a shield, sealants help to inhibit the formation of cavities and reduce the risk of tooth decay.

At Dr. Clementine C. Ignacio, DMD, we recommend this noninvasive and painless procedure especially for children, as it offers long-lasting protection during the critical developmental years when proper oral hygiene habits may still be developing. Dental sealants provide an essential safeguard to maintain the oral health of children, ensuring their smiles remain cavity-free and vibrant for years to come.

The Procedure for Sealant

Getting a dental sealant is a quick and painless process. Our dentist in Anaheim will first clean your teeth to remove any plaque or debris. Then, they will apply a gel to the teeth to help the sealant adhere to them. Once the gel has dried, the dentist will apply sealant to each tooth using a brush. They will then use a curing light to set the sealant in place.

After your treatment, you can eat and drink as normal. However, you should avoid eating or drinking anything that could stain your teeth for at least 30 minutes after the procedure.

Sealants are durable and can last for several years with proper care. However, they will eventually wear off over time and must be replaced. It would help if you visited our dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings so they can monitor the condition of your sealants and replace them as needed. Dental sealants are most commonly used on children’s teeth, but adults can benefit from them as well.

The Benefits of Sealants

  • Dental sealants in Anaheim are an effective way to reduce the risk of cavities in children. They create a barrier between the teeth and the plaque that can cause decay. By preventing this buildup, sealants help to keep your child’s teeth healthy and strong.
  • Tooth enamel is the hardest tissue in the human body, but it’s still susceptible to damage. Sealants protect the tooth enamel from wear and tear caused by chewing, biting, and grinding. They also prevent acids from reaching the enamel and causing erosion.
  • Sealants are an excellent way to protect your child’s teeth from future dental problems. They help to keep the teeth clean and healthy, which can prevent the need for fillings or other dental procedures down the road.
  • Sealants are a cost-effective way to protect your child’s teeth. They are much less expensive than fillings and other dental procedures that may be needed if your child develops cavities.
